What scares us most about financial success is not that we may fall short, but that we may actually take flight.
I see it in so many women. I saw it myself. We’re terrified to discover that we might be ‘powerful beyond measure.’ And for good reason.
When we claim our power, we raise the stakes. Power insists we become responsible adults, the primary authority in our life…autonomous, accountable, and as singer/songwriter Helen Reddy crooned, “too big to ignore.”
That’s precisely what scares us. I know it freaked me out for most my life…though only in hindsight could I see it. Admittedly, for centuries powerful women have been severely punished. But these days, we’re the only ones holding ourselves back.
I am reminded of a story of a Zen monk who, when asked the secret of Buddha’s smile, replied, “It can only be that he smiles at himself for searching all those years for what he already possesses.” We, too, will smile at ourselves when we finally figure it out. Financial success is really about reclaiming the power that lies dormant within by realizing our potential, pursuing our passion, overcoming our fears, and for that, being richly rewarded.
